Church History
The Church of God of Prophecy was formally organized as the Church of God in 1903 in Cleveland, Tenn. In 1923, there was a split resulting in two separate denominations. Decades later, “of Prophecy” was added to our name.
The Dawsonville Church was first set in order in September 1933, with eight members by Rev. Rufus Flowers. It was a log cabin church located about five miles from Dawsonville at a place known as Myrtle Hill. The church was nicknamed Peek Crack, because people would peek through the cracks in the walls to hear the service.
In 1941 the church was moved from Myrtle Hill to a location in Dawsonville on Highway 19 North (now known as Hwy 9 North) and was called Church of God. In 1952, after the split into two denominations, of Prophecy was added to our church’s name.
May 23, 1982: We moved to our new Church located at 680 Hwy 53 East in Dawsonville. Our first service was on Sunday Night, with the beginning of a County Wide Revival. All the churches in the county were invited to participate. To this day, our church resides here, and we invite everyone to come and worship the Lord with us.
